Paul Catherall

I was lucky enough to see Paul Catherall talk in a very intimate environment at the wonderful Not Inhouse event, that is arranged by the lovely people at Brandhouse. They have had some fantastic people speak recently, and I was lucky enough to see Mr. Bingo at the previous talk also. You make a donation, and all the money goes to the artists chosen charity. You also get a limited print of their work, hand screened by A New Star In The Sky who are based in Brighton. They have some great work under their belt and do this out of the kindness of their hearts. Check them out.

The talk was a real back to basics approach from Paul, who was a really interesting guy to listen to. There we're no computers or presentations, just massive portfolios full of fantastic prints.



The above print stood out massively for me. It is of Cardington Hangers, which is just outside of Bedford. There is a skatepark directly opposite the site in Shortstown, which I spent alot of time at when I was younger and the hangers have fascinated me ever since.

It's almost hard to believe that all of his images are hand drawn, mostly from observation then traced, and printed on multiple layers using only Linocuts.





The above two though, were by far my favourite prints, and the newest Paul had produced. They are for a yet to be publised cover of Wallpaper*, and are of the new Shard building in London Bridge. I cant wait to see the prints on the cover. They are really simple, but very graphic and archetectual, which will fit perfectly with the content of the magazine.
